Team Pacquiao rewards Shawn Porter handsomely for a job well done

If Manny Pacquiao blows by Miguel Cotto this Saturday night, his fans will have to thank a little-known 22-year old fighter from Akron, Ohio, home of NBA superstar LeBron James. His name is Shawn Porter.

Porter has been Pacquiao's primary sparring partner throughout his preparations against Cotto. Porter is an undefeated light middleweight boxer with a record of 10-0-0 with 8KOs. Not only is Porter a "Cotto clone" as described by Pacquiao's trainer Freddie Roach himself, he is said to also be stronger and quicker by not only Roach, but as well as a lot of the insiders in Team Pacquiao.

Pacquiao admitted to Porter's contributions while a the Wild Card Gym in LA saying that the Ohioan has given him the best run out of all his sparring partners. Porter on the other hand relished the opportunity of being able to test his wares against the sport's number one pound-for-pound fighter and has confessed his instant love affair with Filipino boxing fans which started when he first arrived in Baguio City Philippines to help Manny in camp.

For all his troubles and help, Team Pacquiao has rewarded Porter a spot in his entourage that will walk him to the ring on November 17. The experience will not only give Porter a lot of face time with a worldwide audience, it also provides him a taste of big-time prizefighting and inspire him to reach the same levels. It is an absolute privilege to roll in Pacquiao's ring entrance crew which allegedly has turned down the likes of P Diddy to be given such an opportunity in the past. Celebs that have rolled with the Pacquiao to the ring include WWE's Batista and The Undertaker.

Shawn Porter to Walk Pacquiao into Ring Saturday Night

Los Angeles, CA – 2008 US Olympic alternate Shawn “Showtime” Porter will lead superstar Manny Pacquiao into the ring Saturday night for his showdown with WBO Welterweight champion Miguel Cotto.

Porter, 10-0 (8 KO’s), served as Pacquiao’s primary sparring partner and played the role of Cotto during his six weeks in camp. While swapping punches with the best fighter in the world was often a grueling task, Porter was grateful for the opportunity.

“"It’s truly an honor that Team Pacquiao brought me into camp” said Porter, whose intense sparring with Pacquiao was featured on HBO’sEmmy Award winning 24/7 series. “It was a lot of fun, a great learning experience and something I will remember far beyond my years as a professional fighter.”

Following training sessions in Pacquiao’s native Philippines, fans mobbed Porter for pictures, autographs and to ask about his experience sparring with their national hero. Even though the public attention was quite unexpected, Porter is flattered with his newfound support.

“The type of recognizance I got was unbelievable.” “For people to stop me and say “hey you’re Shawn Porter” thousands of miles away from my hometown of Akron, Ohio is great.”

“The fans treated me as if they have known me for a number of years. I definitely look forward to continually building my fan base in the Philippines because their fans are incredible!”

Porter’s next bout is taking place November 21 at Fitzgeralds Casino in Tunica, MS. Details will follow in the coming days.
