Manny started the fight tentatively, while Cotto started strong and fast. This is contrary to most of the predictions by the boxing experts.
This championship fight showed two additional sides of the game of Manny Pacquiao: (1) Manny can take the punch from a legitimate Welterweight (2) Manny is strong and fast in the Welterweight.
Manny Pacquiao baited Cotto to engaged with him toe-to-toe by lying on the ropes and allowing Cotto to punch him on the body. Cotto the perennial body puncher could not resist the temptation and happily took the bait, and engage Manny.
From the third round to twelth round, Manny Pacquiao dictated the tempo of the game. He used his speed and volume punching. He also used angles and superior stamina.
Two things are clear in this fight: (1) Manny can compete in the Welterweight (2) Cotto is not as brave as hyped. Clearly the Margarito loss haunted him.
On the twelfth round, Referee Kenny Bayless has seen enough and stop the fight. Cotto quickly acknowledge the referees decision.
