Miguel Cotto will be dangerous during those first few rounds and Freddie knows it

The gentle musings of Examiner Brad Cooney are a good read today. Mississippi Brad quotes from an interview with Freddie Roach and I concur from both a pre- Pacquiao - Barrera I and post -Pacquiao - Barrera I interview I did with Freddie then that Freddie has a future in this business.

I say this fight goes six rounds November 14. Cotto is no Ricky Hatton or David Diaz. Cotto has world class skills and ring generalship. He is naturally bigger and stronger and may weigh 10-12 pounds more on fight night. But most of all, he has a heart.

I agree with what Cooney says about the modest shortcomings of Cotto. However, nobody has ever been able to put it all together except a concrete hand-wrapped Antonio Margarito and actually beaten Cotto.

But that was a prime 28 -year -old Cotto.

It's too little to late for Cotto now. Although only 29 when he steps into the ring, Cotto took a brutal pounding in the second half of the Margarito fight.

Although he won, he took another pounding from Joshua Clottey over a full 12 and as I said back in June, Cotto is "shot" for all intents and purposes.

His promoter (Bob Arum) has thrown him to the wolves with this now his third consecutive brutal battle. But that is the job of a fighter.

His promoter clearly liked Antonio Margarito over Cotto and now Cotto is also working in a new inexperienced trainer in this the fight of his life.

But Cotto is still very dangerous for at least a few rounds.

Cotto is just too dangerous for Pacquiao to attack while Cotto is in as good as shape as he will be and fresh in the first few rounds. If a knockout comes, it comes.

But Pacquiao didn't get here by being stupid and after a few rounds Cotto will then drastically soften up and be there for Pacquiao.

I see another lunch with the pro -Cotto Sonny in Dallas coming up in a few days and let's see who buys lunch this time!

Commentary: There goes Mr. Matt Stolow once again, trying to promote is favorite fighter Lil' Floyd Mayweather Jr. indirectly.
